CHEF’S CHOICE: Lola’s Farmhouse Bistro

“We met in Red Bank, New Jersey at Danny’s Steak House, I was a bartender and Tommy was the chef,” Ronnie Hussey recalls. She continues: “Tommy has 25 years experience as a chef. He has catered for as many as 1,000 people at a time. “Tommy, she says has performed his culinary magic for such celebrities as Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, even Cheech and Chong.

“That was before we moved to Virginia and opened our own restaurant, Lola’s Farmhouse Bistro,” she adds, “named, not after me, but our yellow-headed Amazon parrot, Lola.

While the restaurant may be named after a parrot, the food and the ambience are definitely not for the birds. From the delicious cuisine and attentive, friendly service to the charm of dining in a beautifully restored farmhouse, Lola’s offers an unparalleled dining experience. “Being family-owned, we are able to provide special attention and great service to all our guests,” Ronnie says. The historic farmhouse, built in 1865, offers two fireplaces, an outdoor fire pit, and a quaint, cozy bar with its own fireplace.

For our visit, Tommy prepared the very popular rack of lamb. The lamb is cooked to perfection and served with buttermilk mashed potatoes as well as zucchini and peppers.
